€50,000 taken in Navan cash-in-transit robbery

Incident took place on Tuesday afternoon at service station in Navan

Gardaí are investigating the robbery of a cash-in-transit van in Co Meath. It is understood that some €50,000 was taken in the incident.

Gardaí are investigating the robbery of a cash-in-transit van in Co Meath.

It is understood that some €50,000 was taken in the incident which took place at about 3.09pm on Wednesday at a Maxol service station on the Dublin Road in Navan.

Gardaí said one of the cash-in-transit workers stepped out of the van at an ATM and was confronted by a man dressed in black and wearing a balaclava.

The man took a money box that is understood to have contained some €50,000 in cash. He then drove towards Navan town along the Dublin Road in a green Honda CRV vehicle with the registration 01 SO 1627.

There were no injuries reported after the incident

The car was later found burnt out in the Woodview Court area of Navan, and the empty money box was found in Blanchardstown, Co Dublin, in the Bealing Walk area.
