The number of people in hospital with Covid-19 has fallen below 1,000 for the first time in over a week, following another decline in the numbers receiving treatment for the virus.
New figures published on Saturday show the number of people in hospital dropped by 80 overnight, with 940 people now receiving treatment.
On Friday, there were 1,023 patients in the hospital, with 83 patients in intensive care. The number of people in intensive care remains unchanged.
A further 14,555 PCR confirmed cases have been reported in the State on Saturday. In addition, on Friday, January 14th, 5,406 people registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal. As of 8am on Saturday, 940 Covid-19 patients are in hospital, of whom 89 are in ICU.

In a post on Twitter, HSE chief executive Paul Reid said "a consistent set of Covid-19 trends give great hope."
He said hospital cases were down, and fewer patients were on oxygen support. GP referrals and overall cases were also down.
“Booster vaccines and the public’s response have so far eased the worst impacts. Please get your booster asap,” Mr Reid wrote.
Daily case numbers have continued to fall, with just over 17,000 reported on Friday evening.
Responding to the case numbers on Friday, chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan hailed the "exceptional" level of take-up of booster Covid-19 vaccines in the State.
Meanwhile, the State’s public health team Nphet will meet next week as the Taoiseach says he is “hopeful” that progress can be made on easing restrictions after that.
Mr Martin said the 8pm closing time for hospitality and indoor events will be looked at and that consideration will also be given to a package of supports for entertainers.
