Cyclist killed following Cork collision

Driver of car was uninjured but treated at the scene for shock

The road was closed and diversions were put in place to allow for a forensic examination of the area by the Garda’s crash scene investigators

Gardaí are appealing for information after a cyclist was killed in a road traffic collision in west Cork on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old man suffered fatal injuries on the N71 road between Rosscarbery and Connonagh when his bicycle collided with a car shortly before 7pm.

Emergency services attended the scene but paramedics were unable to revive the man and he was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was uninjured but was treated for shock.

The dead man’s body was transferred to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place.
