An elderly man has died following a two vehicle collision near Bandon in Co Cork.

The man, in his 80s, was travelling alone in a car which was involved in a crash with another vehicle at a crossroads on the Bandon to Kilbrittain Road at about 6pm today.

The driver and three others occupants of the second car were uninjured.

Gardaí said the body of the deceased man was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow.

“The road at the scene is closed pending a forensic collision investigation and diversions are in place,” gardaí said in a statement.
