The family of an Irishman killed in Qatar are being provided with consular assitance, the Department of Foreign Affairs has said.
The dead man has been named locally as Darragh Walsh from the Neale area of south Mayo.
The circumstances of the 22-year-old’s death have not been confirmed but it is believed he was involved in a road traffic accident.
He is understood to have died when the taxi he was travelling in crashed on Thursday night.
A spokeswoman for the DFA said the Irish Embassy in Abu Dhabi had been in contact with the family.
"The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing assistance to the family of an Irishman who has died in Qatar," she said.
Mr Walsh had only recently moved to Qatar to take up employment.
Arrangements are now being put in place to bring his body back home.
He was a keen GAA fan and a minute’s silence was observed in his honour before the Connacht Senior Football Club Championship Final in Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon this afternoon.
Other friends took to social media to pay tribute.
