A mechanical fault forced a Chicago-bound flight to make an emergency landing at Shannon airport this afternoon.
American Airlines Flight 55 from Manchester to Chicago diverted to Shannon as a precaution due to an issue with a heat sensor in the cargo compartment.
The aircraft landed safely shortly after 1pm and a maintenance team evaluated it. The flight was subsequently cancelled.
None of the 199 passengers and 12 crew on board the Boeing 737 300 series aircraft were injured.
