Met Éireann issues yellow rain warning for 10 counties

A status yellow rain warning has been issued for a number of counties in Ireland with Met Éireann advising that “heavy spells of persistent rain” could lead to “localised flooding”.

The affected counties include Cork, Kerry, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary and Waterford.

The rain warning in Cork will come in to effect at 3am on Wednesday until 3am on Thursday. A rain warning for Kerry will be in place from 1am on Wednesday until 3am on Thursday. The yellow warning for the other counties comes in to effect from 5am on Wednesday to 5am on Thursday.

Status yellow marine warnings are also in place. South to southwest winds will reach force six or or higher at times on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on all Irish coasts. A small craft warning has been issued from Malin Head to Howth Head to Mizen Head.

Meanwhile, weather conditions nationally are looking poor for the coming days. Met Éireann predicts Tuesday evening will be wet and rather windy as the persistent and locally heavy rain extends eastwards, possibly leading to localised flooding.

Mild temperatures

It will be relatively mild with temperatures falling no lower than 11 to 14 degrees. Fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds will gradually moderate, except in the south and southeast where winds will remain brisk.

Wednesday will be a wet day across much of the country, particularly across Munster and Leinster where it will persist through much of the day, only easing at times later in the afternoon with the ongoing risk of localised flooding.

There will also be further showers or longer spells of rain on Thursday, with some sunny spells in the afternoon. Highest temperatures will reach 13 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southerly winds.

Friday will start wet in many areas. The rain looks to clear to sunny intervals and showers by afternoon for most. It will be a fresher day with highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees in mostly light southerly breezes. Saturday will see further rain throughout the country.
