No changes proposed for staff pensions, says CIÉ

Unions had warned any unilateral changes to pension schemes would lead to strikes

CIÉ has said it has not proposed any changes to the current funding arrangements in place for the pension schemes of staff employed in the State-owned transport group.

Trade unions had warned over the weekend that any unilateral changes to pension arrangements would lead to strikes.

The transport group had invited trade unions to a meeting yesterday with regard to pension issues. However this was postponed to facilitate a separate hearing at the Labour Court aimed at dealing with issues involving train drivers which were at the heart of a recent dispute.

CIÉ said the performance of its two defined-benefit contributory pension schemes was kept under review.
