A woman was arrested on Friday morning after daubing paint at the constituency office of Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Castlebar, Co Mayo.

The local woman painted two messages - “How Many More Children?” and “Represent Me” - on the exterior wall of the building in what was understood to be a protest over the situation in war-torn Syria.

The woman then began to smear red paint on another section of wall before she was interrupted by gardaí.

After the arrest, a can of overturned paint and a brush lay on the ground for some time until a forensic examination of the scene was completed.
