Two arrested following failed robbery in Rathmines

Two men in their 30s are being held by gardaí following an attempted shop robbery in Rathmines yesterday evening.

Shortly after 6pm two masked men entered a newsagents on Rathmines Road Lower in Dublin.

One was armed with a screwdriver and demanded cash from the shop assistant. However, a struggle ensued and both fled the scene empty handed.

During a follow-up search of a nearby house in Grove Park, which is just of Rathmines Road Lower, gardaí arrested two men.

The pair are currently detained at Rathmines Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí have said that the investigation is ongoing.
