The EU's veterinary and phytosanitary services are to be based in Grange, Co Meath, in the Taoiseach's constituency, the Council decided. About loo people will eventually work there.

Mr Bruton said he felt it important that this decision be put in the summit's conclusions to ensure that it happened quickly. He hoped that there would be a degree of synergy between the people who were working in research for Teagasc and those working for the Commission on plant and veterinary health.
