Basketball prodigy Susan Moran last night became the first Irish player to be signed by an American WNBA team.
Moran, from Tullamore, Co. Offaly, was drafted into the New York Liberty team. She played two minutes for her new team in an exhibition game at the weekend and scored four points.
Earlier this year, she crowned a remarkable US college career at St Joseph's, Philadelphia by becoming their highest ever scorer, with a total of 2,223 points.
Moran, who won a scholarship to the United States after completing her Leaving Certificate in 1998, has been drafted to the injured-reserved list. This means she can not play in the first three games of the season but will be available for selection thereafter.
The WNBA tips off this Saturday, May 25th when New York Liberty play the LA Sharks.
