A 16-year-old champion Irish dancer who broke her ankle in a Burger King restaurant has been awarded almost £9,000 damages in the Circuit Civil Court.

Judge Kevin Haugh heard that although Ms Maire Cooling had regained her pre-accident dancing prowess, she had difficulty for a year after the fracture had healed.

Ms Cooling, Benbulbin Road, Drimnagh, Dublin, slipped on water that had spilled out from a toilet area in Burger King, Jervis Street, Dublin, in November 1999.

She was all-England Champion at under eight and was fifth in the all-Ireland Championship for under l0's. She has been dancing for 11 years winning medals at all levels.
