Ireland has the most televisions per household in Europe with 53 per cent of them having three or more sets according to a survey released today.
The pan-European survey on television behaviour was conducted at the request of Chorus and UPC Broadband.
The survey found that while the majority (55 per cent) of Europeans watch television to be informed the Irish (56 per cent) using their set to be entertained. Almost one third of Norwegians said they watch television for educational purposes.
An average of 82 per cent of Europeans watch TV every day however, 84 per cent of Irish watch their sets each day, of them, over 40 per cent said they would stay at home to watch their favourite TV programme.
The survey also found that the Irish are interested in political programmes with 65 per cent of them believe that their voting behaviour is influenced to some extent the programmes.
The survey was conducted by Research International among more than 6,000 consumers in fourteen European countries including: The Netherlands, France, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Ireland, Belgium, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, and Slovenia.
