The President, Mrs Mary McAleese, is to visit Irish Red Cross head office in Dublin tomorrow to congratulate staff there who have raised over €1 million so far towards tsunami relief efforts.
A family walk in Marley Park in Dublin this morning raised €60,000. Organisers, who had expected to raise €10,000, said they were "completely overwhelmed" by the generosity of those who attended.

The Lord Mayor, Mr Michael Conaghan has opened the Mansion House to take in donations and announced that all 20 of Dublin Corporation's rent offices will take donations on behalf of the Irish Red Cross all next week.
"The scale of this unfolding tragedy has left us shocked and the only heartening aspect to this has been the spontaneous generosity of Dubliners at an individual and local level," Mr Conaghan said. He added €4,000 was collected at the Mansion House in the first three hours this morning.
There will be Irish Red Cross collectors visiting 8,500 pubs and hotels all over Ireland tonight. All the money collected will be bagged and delivered to the 903 Garda Stations around the country for lodgement to the Irish Red Cross bank accounts. Also in Dublin today and tomorrow, a big yellow Civil Defence Bus will be parked on O'Connell Street taking donations, while a fire-fighting pump will also tour the city centre collecting on behalf of the Irish Red Cross.

Oxfam Ireland is contributing €150,000 to help relief in Sri Lanka and €400,000 for Aceh, Indonesia.
