A Dublin man has been jailed for two years for assaulting an Italian tourist in London. The Old Bailey heard that Michael Mahon (37) dragged the 22-year-old woman into an alleyway off High Holborn in central London and attempted to strangle her. The court was told the woman had a "real fear" of being raped. The woman had just got off a bus when she became aware of Mahon following her. She was seized from behind. She was rescued by two police officers who saw her being dragged into the alley. Mahon, who was drunk at the time, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and kidnap but denied charges of attempted rape and indecent assault.
