A MAN with an Irish passport who is accused of drug smuggling appeared in a Spanish court yesterday. The 39 year old, with a passport in the name of James Thorpe, was arrested on Wednesday when police seized a motor launch with an estimated £10 million worth of cannabis on board near Benidorm. Also arrested were a Moroccan and a Briton. All three were remanded in custody. The launch is believed to have come from Morocco.

Thorpe is understood to have been described in court as a yachtsman whose role was only to transport the drugs and the two other men to Spain.

The Briton, with a passport in the name of Robert Kennedy, was reported to have told the court he was an undercover policeman.
