Israel today released five Palestinian prisoners as part of a swap deal with the Lebanese Hizbullah group that returned the bodies of two Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli cabinet approved their release earlier this week, marking the final stage of the swap deal with the guerrilla group.

None of the released Palestinians was involved in deadly attacks against Israelis, Israeli officials said.

Israel freed five Lebanese prisoners and returned the bodies of nearly 200 Arab fighters last month as part of the deal with Hizbullah.

The two Israeli soldiers were killed in a Hizbullah cross-border raid that triggered a 34-day war in 2006.
