Wimbledon - Women's Draw: Women's number one seed Ana Ivanovic crashed out of Wimbledon this afternoon after a straight-sets to Jie Zheng of China.

The Serbian, who had to see off a match point in the second round against Nathalie Dechy, was comprehensively beaten 6-1 6-4.

Zheng, ranked 133rd in the world, overcame the Serb's power play with some thunderous shots of her own. But Ivanovic's poor serve-volley game was equally responsible for her defeat on Court One.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams won the battle of the former champions at Wimbledon today after Amelie Mauresmo's poor start left the Frenchwoman with too much to do.

The sixth seed, winner here in 2002 and 2003, came through an intense opening set full of high quality tennis before running away with the match 7-6 6-1.

Mauresmo, who won the title in 2006, did well to recover from a torrid start, coming back from 3-0 down to force a tie-break. Having trailed 4-1 in that she dug deep again to get to 4-4 but a netted backhand gave Williams the opener.

With Mauresmo's energy seemingly spent Williams surged into a 5-0 lead in the second set and although the Frenchwoman recovered one break of serve there was no way back.

It is the first time Mauresmo has failed to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon in her last six visits.

Williams will meet fellow Amrican Bethanie Mattek in the fourth round after she she also beat a French adversary.

Marion Bartoli's fairytale run to the final last year took the tennis world by surprise but the the 11th seed's form deserted her today, as she fell 6-4 6-1 to the unseeded Mattek.

Fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova celebrated her 23rd birthday by scoring a straight sets victory over Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic.

The Russian, a three-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist and former US Open champion, broke twice in the opening set to take it 6-2 and wrapped up the second 6-4 to book her place in the last 16.

She was joined in round four by fellow Russian Anna Chakvetadze, who put out compatriot Evgeniya Rodina.

Chakvetadze, the eighth seed, took that one 6-4 6-3 and now plays Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic after the 18th seed eased past Aussie Casey Dellacqua 6-2 6-4 in the first completed match of the day after rain delays.

Vaidisova has been bad news for Australians at this year's championships as she also ended Samantha Stosur's hopes in the second round despite dropping the second set 6-0.

Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland made it through to the fourth round for the second time in three years by seeing off Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

The 14th seed prevailed 6-3 6-2 as her opponent made a string of unforced errors.
