Jordan received a further boost today when extending their agreement with tyre suppliers Bridgestone for a fifth year.

The deal comes two days after Eddie Jordan's cash-strapped outfit received extra money - reportedly around Stg£10million - from fellow Formula One bosses in a redistribution of television revenues.

"Bridgestone have been a crucial partner to Jordan over the last four years and I'm very pleased we have extended our relationship," said Jordan.

"The Jordan Ford EJ13 package, with the chassis from Henri Durand and Gary Anderson, combined with Ford Cosworth RS power and Bridgestone tyres will be a strong contender and we are looking forward to a season of good racing."

Jordan hailed the radical plans aimed at reducing costs and improving racing which were announced by motor racing boss Max Mosley after a meeting with the 10 team principals on Wednesday as a "significant" day for his team.

The extra money - fellow minnows Minardi have also been helped out - will ensure the grand prix grid remains at 20 cars this year with no team joining Prost and Arrows, who have gone into liquidation in the last 12 months.

"Without this we would have needed Houdini at his greatest, pulling lots of rabbits out of hats," said Jordan of the cash lifeline.

"This means we can go to sponsors and tell them we are definitely in business. I can now say hand on heart that we are in a position to fight in the championship again."

Jordan is still seeking a main sponsor as well as a second driver to partner Giancarlo Fisichella when the new season gets under way on March 9th in Australia.
