A High Court judge yesterday said he would not "at this time" hear a further application for bail by a man who, with his cousin, is alleged to have been caught transporting bomb material near the Border on the day of the referendum on the Belfast Agreement. But Mr Justice Carney said he would entertain at a future date a bail application on behalf of Mr Kieran McDonagh (37), of Greenfield Court, Dundalk, Co Louth. With his cousin, Mr Patrick (Paddy) McDonagh, of Cooley Park, Dundalk, the applicant has been charged with having 938lb of explosives, a booster tube and a detonating cord at Carrickneena, Co Louth, on May 23rd, with intent to endanger life.
