The jury in the trial of a Malaysian man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend's mother has been sent to a hotel overnight after failing to reach a verdict after three hours of deliberation this afternoon.

Haw Yong Lamhin (21) of an address in Castle Lawns, Tallaght, in Dublin, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mook Ah Mooi (49), who was also Malaysian and lived at the same address.

When the trial began last week, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter over her death in August last year, but the plea was not accepted by the prosecution.

Mr Justice Kevin O'Higgins ordered that the jury of six men and six women return to the Central Criminal Court at 10 a.m. tomorrow to continue their deliberation.
