Fears that injury would rule Roy Keane out of the Republic’s crunch World Cup qualifier against Holland next week have been put to rest with the Republic of Ireland skipper being passed fit to play for his club Manchester United on Sunday.
The fiery midfielder picked up an ankle injury during United's 2-2 midweek draw with Blackburn Rovers and it was feared that the Corkman could be out for up to three weeks, thus ruling him out of Ireland’s crucial World cup qualifier against the Dutch on September 1st.
The 30 year old attended a specialist yesterday and today United boss Alex Ferguson was able to dispel any rumours regarding any lay off.
"Roy is fine," said Ferguson. "There were some scare stories around about his ankle but it's fine and he will play for us against Aston Villa on Sunday."
