Soccer:Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane may well have played his way back into Harry Redknapp's plans after impressing during a four-team pre-season tournament in the US.
Keane slipped down the pecking order at Spurs last season before being offloaded to Celtic for the second half of the campaign.
The Dubliner has performed well in pre-season though, finding the net in their win over the New York Red Bulls and a draw against Sporting Lisbon. His assist for Jon Obika in the same game contributed to him being named Player of the Tournament.
Redknapp admits that the 30-year-old’s form could lead to him staying at the club, despite stern competition from Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko for a starting place.
“He (Keane) was outstanding in the tournament,” said Redknapp. “He scored some goals and ended up getting player of the tournament, and deservedly so. He’s in great form. He’s here so there’s every chance that he will be in the team. He’s a top player.
“He's here so there's every chance that he will be in the team. He's a top player.”
Redknapp has ruled out adding former Real Madrid captain Raul to his strikeforce, and though he has admitted he is interested in Luis Fabiano, the Brazilian insists he is taying with Sevilla.
Redknapp told Sky Sports News: "I like Fabiano. I've got other targets, but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't like him, he's a top player.
“Raul was a great player at Real Madrid, but I wouldn’t think he would be a player we would bring to Tottenham. Financially, I don’t think it would be possible to do a deal like that.”
Fabiano, however, has this evening insisted he will not move this summer.
"During my time at the World Cup I was very calm because I knew that I was going to stay at Sevilla," Luis Fabiano told the club's radio station. "Much was said but nothing true.
"I couldn't talk because I was with the Brazil team but I have a year left on my contract with Sevilla and I am very happy."
"I really want to defend once again the Sevilla badge and I would love to help lift a trophy in August."
