Labour claims stealth taxes hit most vulnerable

The elderly, the sick and young working couples are being hit by a number of stealth taxes that have crept in over the last few years, the Labour Party claimed today.

The party said it had identified over 50 stealth taxes, which include taxes or charges for public services within the control of the Government, that have increased in recent years.

The party claims the taxes are eroding the spending power of many sections of society.

The study says there has also been increases in costs controlled by the Government such as in utilities, third level fees and hospital beds.
