Sensitive documents - some linked to the justice system in Northern Ireland - were found in outbuildings today.

Up to five filing cabinets containing the documents were taken away for examination from the buildings beside a house near Ballygawley, Co Tyrone.

They were discovered on the property at Todds Lane Road and officers carried out a full search with the owner's co-operation. No-one has been arrested.

It was not immediately clear what type of documents they were or the information they contained, but it is believed some of them could be criminal records.

It is also understood there is nothing to suggest at this stage that the documents were stolen, but they could have proved deeply embarrassing had they fallen into the wrong hands.
