Leitrim centre-back Ciaran Murray could face time in a US prison if prosecuted after joking he had a bomb in his bag in New York, according to reports.
The Irish Sunclaims the footballer was charged at the Queen's Criminal Court with "falsely reporting an incident in the first degree".
Murray was freed on bail until May, 20th but the report suggests he could face a sentence of anything up to five years.
The Leitrim team were in New York to play their preliminary round of the Bank of Scotland Connacht senior football championship against New York.
