World heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has cast doubt on whether his long-awaited fight with Mike Tyson will go ahead after Nevada state officials denied the American a licence.

"I have made no decision yet about the possibility of fighting Mike Tyson in another jurisdiction that may license him," Lewis said in a statement released by his promoters this morning.

"I want to consider carefully the reasons expressed by the commission in denying the licence.

"In addition I am still consulting with my attorneys as to the legal consequences should I declare that I not go forward with the bout."

Lewis, the World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion, had been due to fight Tyson in Las Vegas on April 6th.

But Tyson failed in his bid to regain his boxing licence from the Nevada State Athletic Commission last night after the former champion sparked a brawl at a news conference in New York to announce the fight last week.
