Eastbourne - Engineers yesterday moved the Belle Tout lighthouse, near Beachy Head, half-way to new foundations 55 feet away from a crumbling cliff edge.

The massive task was officially launched by Ms Joy Cullinan (93), who lived in the 850 ton lighthouse between 1955 and 1980. The operation cost the current owner, a publican, £250,000. The Belle Tout was built in 1834 and last shone in 1902.
