A lorry driver in his 30s is due to appear before a special sitting of Galway District Court tomorrow charged in connection with a fatal collision in which two people died this morning.

He was detained after the crash at Mill Street Garda Station where his period of detention was extended for a further six hours this afternoon under the terms of Section IV of the Criminal Justice Act.

This evening gardaí announced the man would be charged in connection with the two deaths under the Road Traffic Act.

The crash happened on the main Galway-to-Dublin road near Moyode at around 6.15 a.m.
