Loyalists end hunger strike

Five dissident loyalist prisoners ended their hunger strike at the Maze at the weekend

Five dissident loyalist prisoners ended their hunger strike at the Maze at the weekend. The prisoners, who are aligned to the recently outlawed Loyalist Volunteer Force, had been demanding that other loyalists at Maghaberry be transferred to their H block wing, and that they be allowed the same visit-ing rights as other prisoners.

The Portadown loyalist Billy Wright is understood to have been among the hunger strikers, who began their protest on Tuesday. It ended after they were assured that they would be given the same facilities as other inmates.
