Loyalist paramilitaries have been linked to what the RUC describes as the most significant loyalist weapons cache in east Belfast in recent years.

The haul comprised 10 guns, including an assault rifle, eight hand guns and a sawn-off shotgun, more than 1,000 assorted rounds of ammunition, two items of body armour, gloves and balaclavas. A 41-year-old man was being questioned last night following the find in a house in Templemore Close in east Belfast on Tuesday.

It is believed the discovery is connected to the Loyalist Volunteer Force.
