The Government clampdown on drink driving has upset the social mix and social life in the country and has angered people in the northwest, the third episode of US pollster Frank Luntz's Week in Politicstelevision series to be broadcast on RTÉ on Sunday, will claim.
The programme, which was recorded in Boyle, Co Roscommon, last week, also shows a negative attitude to immigration and a resentment of the fact that the west has lost out on the Celtic Tiger.
This is the last of the US political analyst's series of specials for RTÉ in the run-up to this year's general election working with focus groups of 30 voters.
The first programme, broadcast before Christmas, went through the party leaders with undecided voters. The second programme was broadcast in Clonmel in Co Tipperary in January.
Tomorrow night's programme will see half of the focus group say they are drinking less due to the clampdown on drink driving. Mr Luntz will also analyse the impact of the party leaders' visits around the country on voters and will be asking the focus group on their preferred coalition options for the next government.
The results are understood to also reflect an overall negative attitude about immigration and the fact that green issues are not as big in the west as they are in Dublin.
