Sixty people who drowned when a ferry sank during a storm off Madagascar were buried today as rescuers discovered two further survivors a week after the disaster, officials in nearby Comoros said.
The discovery of Feyssoil Ahamada, a Comoran, and another person who gave his name simply as Kassim brings to four the number of people who survived the sinking of the ferry Samson on March 7th off northwest Madagascar, the officials said.
The circumstances of their rescue were not immediately clear.
The 60 dead, retrieved from the water in recent days, were buried near Madagascar's northern Mahajanga town in a ceremony attended by Madagascar Prime Minister Jacques Sylla and Comoran diplomats, Comoros Transport Minister Houmed Mdahoma M'Saidie said in Moroni.
The ferry was believed to have been carrying 113 crew and passengers when it capsized on Sunday evening in rough seas whipped up by Cyclone Gafilo as it swept across the north of the world's fourth largest island.
