Irish airports: Almost all flights in and out of Irish airports were operating normally yesterday, in spite of the continuing security alert in Britain.

It was "very much business as usual" at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports, said a spokeswoman for the Dublin Airport Authority, which operates all three facilities.

Aer Lingus said it operated a full schedule yesterday, with the only disruption being delays of between 10 and 15 minutes to services on the Dublin-London Heathrow route.

Ryanair, however, cancelled 46 flights from Stansted airport near London, including six to Dublin, Derry and Cork.

Two return flights from Dublin to Stansted were also cancelled.

A spokesman said that apart from those two, the airline's services from Dublin were operating normally.

But there would be continued disruption to services from Stansted as long as the "critical" security alert in Britain remained in place.

The British airline bmi said there had been no disruptions to services in and out of Dublin, with all scheduled flights between the capital and London Heathrow  departing and arriving as normal.

Services were also back to near-normal yesterday  at airports in the North, as passengers adapted to  stringent security  conditions.

At Belfast International Airport there were no cancellations, although  a 9.55am flight to Orlando, Florida was delayed "indefinitely".

The Dublin Airport Authority said passengers should turn up for flights as usual about 90 minutes ahead of departure time.
