A man (27) was was given a 12-year prison sentence at the Circuit Criminal Court in Tralee today for abducting a young woman and subjecting her to a five hour ordeal in the Dublin mountains.

Robert Quigley of Seskin View Road, Tallaght, Dublin had earlier pleaded guilty to falsely imprisoning the young woman at locations in Counties Wicklow and Dublin, to assaulting her causing her harm at Military Road, Glasamucky, Co Dublin , and to sexually assaulting her at Military Road, in November last.

In the early hours of November 19th, the victim was celebrating university exam results at Copper Face Jack's nightclub at Harcourt Street in Dublin.

After leaving the club she got into the back of Quigley's car, thinking it was a taxi.

She fell asleep and Quigley drove her to the Dublin mountains where he repeatedly beat her before sexually assaulting her during a five-hour ordeal.

In court today, Mr Quigley's victim described how her life has been torn apart since the attack.

Quigley was today given eight and three year sentences on the assault charges to run concurrently. Judge Moran suspended the last four years of the 12-year sentence for imprisonment on conditions of supervision.
