Man (38) dies of injuries after Kerry assault

A  Kerry man (38) has died from injuries suffered in an assault after the All-Ireland football final last month.

A  Kerry man (38) has died from injuries suffered in an assault after the All-Ireland football final last month.

A post-mortem is due to be carried out on the body of the man by the Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster, in Cork University Hospital today.

The man underwent emergency surgery for head injuries after the assault in the village of Milltown, Co Kerry, on the Sunday night/Monday morning after the match.

The attack is understood to have involved a number of men outside a pub in the centre of Milltown sometime between midnight and 12.30 a.m.

The dead man, who was from the Killorglin area, fell to the ground on the street outside the pub and suffered head injuries. He was rushed to Kerry General Hospital, Tralee, and was later transferred to Cork.
