A Dungannon, Co Tyrone man has been returned for trial on charges of threatening to kill two Protestant clergymen in a Co Tyrone town. Mr Desmond Campbell (29), of no fixed address, is alleged to have sent the death threats in letters while in Maghaberry prison.

The clergy Mr Campbell is accused of threatening are a former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Dr Andrew Rodgers, and the Rev Trevor Baxter, minister of Dungannon Free Presbyterian Church.

Mr Campbell is also charged with threatening to kill Mr Baxter's wife and children.

The alleged offences took place between April and last July.

Mr Campbell made no reply in answer to the charges when he appeared at Cookstown Magistrate's court yesterday. He was remanded in custody.
