A former boyfriend of an Omagh care worker, Ms Sylvia Fleming, who admits dismembering her body, which was uncovered nearly two years ago under the foundations of a house, yesterday went on trial for her murder.
Mr Stephen Peter Scott, a part-time Omagh fireman and bodybuilder, who denies murdering his 17-year-old former girlfriend in his Lisanelly Heights home in April 1998, blames a 15-year-old schoolboy for her death, Ballymena Crown Court heard yesterday.
Opening the prosecution case, Mr Gordon Kerr QC said Mr Scott allegedly told police that he had gagged and bound his former girlfriend to a bed before injecting her with insulin, claiming he believed she agreed to the ritual because she had not said "No".
He further claimed that later the schoolboy had come into the room and had "pulled too tight" on her ropes, and Ms Fleming had died.
Mr Kerr said Mr Scott in an alleged panic hid Ms Fleming's body in his loft overnight and the next day took her to the bathroom where her body was washed to remove any trace of him having had sex with her.
He then, at the alleged suggestion of the schoolboy, cut up his pregnant former girlfriend and together with the schoolboy and another man, Mr Paul Rigby, buried her remains under a house being constructed in nearby Circular Road.
The schoolboy, now aged 17, is already awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy to pervert justice.
