An 18-year-old man has admitted causing the death of two gardaí when the stolen sports car he was driving rammed into their patrol car.
Mr Raymond Dowdall (18), from Galtymore Road, Drimnagh, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to reckless endagerment and dangerous driving causing the deaths of Gda Michael Padden and Gda Anthony Tighe on the Stillorgan Road on April 14th, 2002.
Mr Dowdall was originally charged with manslaughter but last week his counsel informed Judge Hogan that the case could be taken out of a trial list and listed to be called before court, indicating Mr Dowdall would be entering a plea.
The two gardaí died after their patrol car was rammed by a stolen Mazda MX5 early in the morning on April 14th.
A co-accused of Mr Dowdall was sentenced to four years of detention last January for being a passenger in the car.
