A man has been arrested in Ennis General Hospital after threatening staff with a fake gun.
He was being treated at the A&E department last night when he took what appeared to be a gun and started waving it at medical staff.
The man (37) was overpowered by security staff and held until gardaí arrived to arrest him. The gun was found to be an imitation.
Fine Gael's Ms Madeleine Taylor-Quinn called for an urgent review of security at the hospital following the "unacceptable" incident.
"The Mid Western Health Board now has to review procedures to ensure that staff, patients and the public are not put at risk," she said. "We cannot wait to see if there's a next time, or if that will involve a real weapon with real bullets. People in a hospital cannot be left looking over their shoulders in fear."
