Man arrested over Dundalk woman's murder

A 43 year-old man was arrested this morning in connection with the murder of a woman in Dundalk, Co Louth.

A 43 year-old man was arrested this morning in connection with the murder of a woman in Dundalk, Co Louth.

Ms Janet Chaney (47) was at her home in Oakland Park, Coxes Demesne, Dundalk, yesterday when an ambulance was called to the house.

She was taken to Louth County Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 1.10 p.m. It is understood there were a number of marks on her body.

The State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, carried out a post-mortem on the woman's remains yesterday. Gardaí then began a murder inquiry.

A number of people were interviewed yesterday in connection with the death.

The man who was arrested this morning is being detained in Dundalk Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
