A man has appeared in court charged with a serious assault on a Polish man in Dublin over the weekend.
Edward Byrne (20), appeared in Dublin District Court this morning charged with assault causing harm to Lukasz Rzeszutko (27) at the Newtown Industrial Estate in Coolock, north Dublin in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Detective Garda Niall Gibbs told Judge David McHugh that Mr Byrne (20), with an address at a YMCA hostel in Dublin 8, was arrested on Sunday evening. The court heard he made no reply when he was charged.
Defence solicitor John Feeney told the court that his client was deferring a bail application until Friday next.
Judge McHugh said that given the seriousness of the charges, he was remanding the accused in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on October 8th.
Legal aid was granted after the court heard that the defendant was unemployed.
Mr Byrne, who was dressed in a grey hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers, remained silent during the proceedings.
Mr Rzeszutko died this evening in Beaumont hospital.
