A MAN is to appear in a Limerick court this morning in connection with the death of Brendan McEvoy, whose body was found at an apartment complex in the city on Thursday morning.

The man faces charges under the non-fatal offences against the person Act. It is understood the body of the 50-year-old was found with visible injuries on a stairway at Cherrydale Orchard on the Dublin Road.

Gardaí at Henry Street, who are investigating Mr McEvoy’s death, believe the Carlow native had earlier been drinking with another man and that he may have been assaulted prior to his death.

However, a postmortem conducted by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis proved inconclusive, and a Garda spokesman confirmed that further tests would be carried out.

“Our inquiries are ongoing and the results of those tests will have a bearing on what direction the investigation takes,” said the spokesman.

It is believed Mr McEvoy had been studying law and European studies at the University of Limerick.

“His family are very, very upset, they are trying to come to terms with the tragedy,” said Carlow councillor Denis Foley from Bagenalstown who knew Mr McEvoy.
