A Clondra man was charged at a special sitting of Longford District Court last night with assaulting a local publican, Mr Tom Croghan (71), who died on Sunday evening. He is Mr Ivan Neary (18) of Rhymount, Clondra, Co Longford.
Det Sgt Aidan Glackin said the man had been arrested earlier in the evening at Battery Road, Longford and was later charged with assaulting Mr Croghan with intent to commit an indictable offence.
He was remanded in custody by Judge John Neilan to St Patrick's Institution to appear at a further special sitting of Longford court on Monday next.
