A man was charged at Dublin District Court yesterday with murder at Dave's Restaurant in Dorset Street, Dublin.
Mr Ram Pal (49), originally from the Punjab, with an address at Upper Dorset Street, Dublin, was charged three months ago with assault causing serious harm to Mr Sukhdev Singh Gill (59), whose body was found with stab wounds on January 12th.
The additional charge of murder was brought on the DPP's instructions. Det Sgt Walter O'Sullivan said after he was charged yesterday, Mr Pal replied: "I did not realise it happened, it was in self-defence.
"I am sorry and I want to go back to India. Sukhdev also took a knife to me. If possible, send me back to my kids, I am not well here."
Judge David Anderson remanded him in custody to Cloverhill District Court on May 23rd.
