A man appeared before Derry Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with the attempted murder of his wife at their home

A man appeared before Derry Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with the attempted murder of his wife at their home. Mr John Michael Crossan, (36), from Clonliffe Park, Culmore Point, is charged with attempting to murder Ms Caroline Crossan.

An RUC detective said in evidence that, when charged, the defendant replied: "I definitely didn't do it."

The RUC man believed he could connect the defendant to the charge and asked for a remand to enable him to complete his inquiries. He said there was no police objection to the defendant being given access to visit his wife in Altnagelvin Hospital. The defendant was remanded in custody until October 9th.
