A man was tonight charged with three counts of attempted murder following a gun attack on a polling station in Northern Ireland on the day of the General Election in June.

The 32-year-old was also charged with the possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

Two police officers and a civilian were injured when a gunman fired a burst of fire at a polling station in Draperstown, Co Derry, 15 minutes before it was due to close on June 7th.

A gunman jumped out of a car, fired a burst of shots at the front of St Mary's Primary School and sped off in the vehicle.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said accused man was arrested at his home in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, this morning.

He is due to appear in Limavady, Co Derry Magistrates Court in the morning.
