Premiership football star Joey Barton today appealed to his brother Michael to give himself up to detectives investigating the racist murder of black teenager Anthony Walker.
The Manchester City star said: "You must do this because you know it's right". He described Anthony's murder as "horrific" and "senseless" and added that those responsible "must be brought to justice".
British police do not believe the two men wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of 18-year-old Anthony Walker in Huyton, Merseyside, are in Ireland.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside police said gardai were "not involved" in the investigation. She said they are investigating the possibility that Michael Barton (18) and Paul Taylor (20) have fled to continental Europe.
Manchester City footballer Joey Barton
Anthony Walker, was beaten to death by a gang of three to four men on Friday evening in Liverpool, just minutes after he had been taunted with racist abuse while standing with his white girlfriend and a male relative.
In a televised appeal on ITV News, the 22-year-old footballer called on his brother to come home.
"The horrific killing of Anthony Walker has shocked the country," he said. "Those responsible for the senseless death of a kind, decent young man must be brought to justice. My sincere condolences go out to Anthony's family. My side of the Barton family are sickened by his death.
"Although I was not brought up with Michael, I urge him to come forward and give himself up to police."
Police investigating the Liverpool case said last night they had arrested two men, aged 26 and 29, on suspicion of murder. They already have a 17-year-old in custody and an 18-year-old has been released on bail.
All of those wanted or arrested over the attack are from Huyton, the Liverpool neighbourhood where Walker was killed in a murder police have called a "despicable act".
Walker was a local college student described as a devout Christian. Detectives said he had been abused by a man wearing a hooded top as he waited with his 17-year-old girlfriend and his cousin, also 17, at a bus stop in Huyton.
The trio did not respond and were moving away through a park when the gang attacked Walker.
His girlfriend and cousin ran to get help. When they returned they found him slumped on the ground with serious injuries to his head. He later died in hospital.
