Man denied bail to marry

A man charged with murder was refused bail yesterday to get married

A man charged with murder was refused bail yesterday to get married. A lawyer for Mr Rodney Alan Bishop (20), of Umgall Road, Nutts Corner, Co Antrim, said he was not asking any favours for himself but for his fiancee.

The court was told the couple had made arrangements to get married in Ballymena Town Hall on February 13th.

Mr Bishop is one of four men accused of murdering Mr Leslie Davidson (18), of Caulside Park, Antrim, who was stabbed to death last September.

Mr Bishop's application for a day's compassionate bail was opposed by a DPP lawyer on the grounds that his fiancee was a Crown witness in the murder case. Mr Justice Girvan refused the application.
